Awards Juror: Richard Folger
Richard Folger has been an avid art collector all his life. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1953, Mr. Folger joined the Air Force, unaware of a wonderful opportunity awaiting him. Folger was stationed in England where he spent all his free time visiting museums and galleries. Folger began adding to an art education that had begun when he had studied sculpture under the well known artist, Rev. A.J. Lauck for three years at Notre Dame. While in England, he began acquiring art, developing a passion that has never been quenched. After two years in England, Folger returned to Texas and became involved in the oil business and real estate. He continued to collect art and in 1970, he turned his passion into a business when he established Folger Galleries in Midland, Texas. As in his own personal collecting, Richard is dedicated to bringing fine art to his clientele at the gallery. He represents works by established and emerging artists in a wide range of art from impressionism to realism with a variety of subject matter. He has served as a juror in shows in Texas and has worked with many young artists helping them to further their careers.
About APA and the Theme of the Exhibit
The American Plains Artists or APA was first organized in 1982 as a small group of artists who banded together to highlight through their art, the variety to be found in the vast region known as the American Plains.
Today, the APA has expanded into a nonprofit organization with a membership consisting of both signature and associate members. The goals have remained the same, to educate the public through traditional and representational art works about the American Plains region including the landscape, wildlife, peoples and way of life in historical or modern times. Works submitted for the juried show must reflect this theme. Review the website www.AmericanPlainsArtists.com for more info.
Jury Process
Initial jurying will be by submitted slides or Digital Entries via email. Submitted entries will be reviewed by a panel of APA Signature Members on the aesthetic and technical skills of the artist in depicting the theme of the Great Plains. Awards juror, Richard Folger, will choose works to receive the following awards after viewing the original works selected for inclusion in the exhibit.
